Good Midsize cruiser

Looking for a new bike. Quick background, I started off on a Suzuki C50, switched to a Honda CBR600, ridden a Yamaha Raider for a bit and now looking for a mid size cruiser.

I was thinking along the lines of a VStar 1300 or maybe a C90. Not really interested in the Honda line and I think the Kawasaki line is going to be way more than I need with the Vulcan 1700. I don't know if I really want a Harley or not, just my .02 but I think you pay more for the name(not to offend anyone).

Goals are a fun ride that can handle 2 up riding for me and my girlfriend. We have some nice little highways around here that are fun to drive in a car and I would love even more on a bike.

Is there anything else I should be looking at or avoid? I know that I will need to go in person and see each bike, but right now I am putting together a list of bikes to go searching for.

Thanks in advance.

You might consider the new Indian Scout as well but the 1300 type bikes are good. I had a Honda VTX 1300 for some time and after getting a saddle that didn't suck it was great. A little temperamental until getting the air/fuel adjusted better but was a good bike for the time I had it. Unfortunately it went to bike heaven. That was my fault, not the bikes. It did just what I asked of it.LOL

Not to offend you, but it is really stupid to think you are only paying for name when you buy a Harley........especially since you've never ridden one, and the only thing you know about them is what other non-Harley riders have told you.

I think the C90 is the perfect size for being the do all cruiser.
Kawasaki use to make a 90, so if you're looking for used......they call it 1500.

What you say you want it for......the Kawasaki 900 Classic(thats what I use for cruisin around with wife) and the Yamaha 950.

If you liked the Yamaha Raider then maybe look at its little brother the Stryker? Same engine as in the Vstar 1300 I believe

I hear great things about the C90 from a friend of mine that owns one. Others to consider would be an older Valkarie, or an 1100 V-Star. A Venture would be one to consider as well, except that they are pretty sizable, and kinda outside what would be called mid-size in my opinion.

Take a look (and better yet, a demo ride) on a Triumph Thunderbird. The new ones have a 1700cc engine, the older ones a 1600cc engine. Great all around bike.

I like your thinking. I love these V Star 1300s. Good in town. Handles well. Just a good all around MC for me. No concerns with 2 riders and gear. On my 2nd one now. 2009 to a 2015 Deluxe.

I own a C109RT and love it. It is the huge big brother to the C90. My mechanic says it is one of the hardest bikes to work on.

As for the suggestion of an Indian Scout, while the engine is really pretty powerful, the weight of the bike is pretty low and it isn't really a cruiser. I bought one for my wife to ride. She loves it although I was scared for her because of that 100 Hp. Her words the first day she road it, "I could kill myself on this bike." and she had a big grin on her face. Her first bike was a Vulcan 500en.

The Stryker, while a beautiful bike, isn't really a cruiser either. I think the Vulcan 1500 or the comparable V-star would be a great choice. And actually, you owned a C50 and if you liked that then the C90 would be an excellent choice too.

As for the Harley, the air cooled engines generate so much heat. Before I bought my wife the Scout we demo-ed a lot of Harleys. She hated the heat coming off the bike. There were no exceptions. That is also one of the reasons we went with the water cooled Scout for her. (turns out the rear cylinder generates a ton of heat and she didn't notice it on the Demo ride. LOL) She also didn't like the vibration although I wasn't bothered by that as much as she was.

If you look at my album you will see my wife sitting on the C109rt.

I realize this is an old thread, but any of the Honda Shadow 1100s are mechanically common sense, aesthetically pleasing and affordable, imho.
