You mean out of cruiser/standard bikes over 300cc. Otherwise useless statement since Honda, Bajaj and others sells a zillion more than Royal Enfield

RE

There are millions of Royal Enfields in India. They may be the best selling bike there. But they will not make a huge dent here, when there are better bikes for less money.
There are even better bikes made in India for other makes.
Some of the machining on my Inder ( made in India ) sidecar was awful, and not acceptable. Fortunately there is a machinist on my Island.
The tube was split, a spacer between the wheel bearings was missing, the wheel is not straight, and so on.

There may be millions of them but most are old models in various states of disrepair. They are definitely not the best selling bike there by a longshot. Way too expensive for the normal Indian person to afford. Most popular bike most recently has been a Honda Hero model of 100cc. When I was riding in India last year I saw 3 Enfields total in one month and they were new ones. Enfield are only 350 and 500cc size. Meanwhile I literally saw millions of 200 cc and smaller bikes everywhere. I was often at a stoplight in Mumbai with a hundred other bikes surrounding me and I was always on the biggest one. The Bajaj 220 cruiser I was riding was a big hit in many village because they'd never seen a big new bike like that before. If they'd seen an Enfield it was an old 50's or 60's model that was being held together with rubber bands and tape. Don't forget Britain made them and sold them there and after they went out of business India started producing the same old models only recently modernizing them. I test rode one in San Clemente a couple of years ago and it was a terrible vibrator over 55mph. My Bajaj was Indian made and never gave me a single problem engine-wise. Did have a shorted horn which was fixed with a ground tightening. Anyone professing to think that Royal Enfields are best sellers should pony up some statistics to back it up. With the average Indian making such little money there is no way very many can afford to buy one.

The Enfield's do look cool though, in my opinion.

If I had room in my garage I'd have an Enfield and a Chang jiang, or Ural, just for fun.

Agreed, how much fun would it be to buzz around town on an Enfield.

Okay I had to look that one up. This is a place that sells them. I can see why you are interested in them Eye.

Did you have the guts to call and ask about price Critter? I don't. Sticker shock upsets my stomach.

Specs.

The specs for that lop chung make for interesting reading.
Made in China, they appear to be rebuilt by Scooter Bob. Bearings from Germany or Japan, pistons that do not melt, 12 volt electrics, hidden wyring and so on. The black one is $5,800.00, and I am assuming it is used.

73 Guzzi 850 for sale near here for the same amount.
The reviews of the new 500 Enfield were not great. The vibration at higher speed was noted. My XS400 is smoother and faster.

The comments from the rider who has been to India are noted. Admiral Shirley was there last year and reported the same. Even provided many pictures and commentary.
This year she is in Morocco.

I sent a message to the contact us thing to ask. Either I'm being ignored or they are so busy filling orders they can't answer my little quest. How much?

This is a cool easy to navigate website from a dealer who sells Enfield and Ural. They also manufacture useful bike stands as well. SW Ohio Preble County location.

It is an interesting thing to note that Chinese will manufacture both cheap pieces of crap and less cheap pieces of crap with better components like bearings, carbs, belts ect. They leave it to the buyer to determine whether or not to specify a machine that has more durable components or just buy the Harbor Freight model...

Pull off the Band-Aid. Eat our peas. Just do it.

The shop where my bike is being fixed is the only Royal Enfield dealer in Maryland. I've sat on a few there -don't have the courage to take a test ride yet. When I finally do maybe I'll go from daydreaming to a purchase - or a definite no.

Me too.

And I wouldn't waste a whole lot of time pampering either one. Use 'em like they were designed for. Take care of them, but put the spurs to them and ride 'em hard.

They started selling them here in Thailand recently. Overpriced for a bike made in India I think.
