Exclamation New Site Look and Feedback Thread

Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for MotorcycleForum.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join MotorcycleForum.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "MotorcycleForum.comClassic".

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Moto, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.

http://www.motorcycleforum.com/garage.php?do=index

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your MotorcycleForum.com Team.

I am not sure what other members think, but I like it! The skin is clean and professional and not so dated as the other one was. I also noticed that you left the old skin so those that do not like the new one could change it back.

I think the new updates are tastefully done. I personally think it look much better now.

Looks good!

And, thank you for saving the Subscribed Threads!

Half the time a forum I'm on gets updated I lose all of my subscribed threads.

Good job!

Using the new skin, I'm getting a column on the right of my screen with "Recent Discussions" right over the top of the page I'm reading.
When I go back to the old skin, (classic) that column is now next to the page I'm reading. But that column is taking up almost a quarter of my available screen space.
Even if I click the arrow at the right of the header, it just closes the column but leaves the header and a large blank column on the right.
But I can't get rid of it! I don't want it or
need it. I want the page I'm reading to take up the whole screen.
Any suggestions?

Edit: When someone has a large avatar such as your picture of the bike
on fire, the avatar column is taking up almost a third of my screen on the left
and the blank "recent discussions" column is taking up a quarter of the screen
on right, leaving your message squeezed into whatever is left in the middle.

What you are referring too is called a sidebar. Not sure how VB works as I have never used it as a website but do know that every other website software I have used if the sidebar is removed (which is can be) is also removed from every other skin as well.

He is right, the avat takes too much space.

It would appear the removal of the sidebar only works on the main panels. If you go to a thread, IT'S BaaaaaaccccccKKKKKKK.

And can you do something about the tiny print in the edit box.

Also looks like the ChatBox suffers from the same tiny print.

The site seems to be out of proportion to other sites I visit now. Enlarging the screen image to get the edit box to a size I can see and use makes everything else huge.

Something isn't right and this site was fine before the change.

I agree. It only gets rid of the sidebar on the main pages.
Any thread I clicked on, the sidebar is back.

Give it time guys. When someone upgrades, changes have to made after. Upgrading and adding new skins (in my personal experience) is not only time consuming, but adjusting things to the way members want also is time consuming.

Keep in mind that this is the 1st day that any changes have been made in a while. Give it time.

Nope, still have the sidebar.
I refreshed several times and I went
and re-saved the "disable" option under "UserCP/Edit your details".
No change.
Still no sidebar on main pages, but yes sidebar on individual threads.

I like the fact that I can go back tot he Classic look (before this upgrade) as I much prefer it. over this new look, to me it's bloated looking

EDIT: I also just noticed that the "Quick Links" drop menu does not work, I come here, click on "New Threads" to see what has been posted since I was here last, read the ones I want to, then click on "Quick Links" to click on "mark all read" so the next time I come here (multiple times a day usually) I don't get the same ones popping up unless there has been something new posted.

Now I click on "Quick Links" and get nothing

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Switch back to the "Classic" version Dianne until they get the bugs out if it's causing too much trouble. It is for me so once again I'm an untrainable old fart.

Easy to switch. All the way to the bottom left of the page.

I'm unable to reply to posts using the "Reply" button. The quick reply works just fine.

I suspect what is happening is the page goes into a never-ending load because it is trying to load a list of all the pictures from my picture album at once. There are hundreds of pictures in there and I think the browser just gives up and times out. If this function could be turned off, I can test to see if this is the issue.

@Dodsfall

Which browser and device are you using?

Tested on PC Chrome and seems ok.

Can you grab a screenshot of the error and images listed. I think we have a fix for this.

I'm using PC Chrome as well. I suspect it is the number of images that are trying to load, something like 270 of them total in my case. You can see the list gets cut off at the bottom.

I haven't been able to find where to turn off the email notifications for being quoted. I found the spot to turn off email notification for "Likes", but not for quotes.

Edit: I found the switches for the notifications. It is under "User Tagging" in the UserCP.

I found how to turn off the sidebar. Go to your profile then click on "Edit Details" on the top left of the page. Scroll down till you see "Additional Information" then right under that you can turn it off. Only works with main forum page though.

Be sure to switch back now and then to see if things are better. They are working their way thru a bunch of problems apparently. Or should I say customization to get us back somewhat like we were. Doesn't hurt to look you know. It's easy.

Well I'm still getting them from quotes and I have everything turned off under "User Tagging". Or at least I thought so. I'll check again to be sure. Maybe it works for you because you got powers us pee on's don't.

EDIT: Okay, I got it I think. Instead of checking to GET IT, you have to check to NOT GET IT. Backwards as all get out and not consistent with any other notice things. Weeeeeee......ain't this fun? NO!

A few changes that I don't see, but I know that software supports.
Visiting a thread you have already read should automatically take you to the first unread post.
A navigation list at the bottom of a screen as well as at the top would greatly enhance navigation. I get tired of scrolling to the top every time I am done reading and this is the only forum I am on that requires it. A back just takes me back to where I had to manually select "view first unread".
A handy feature on many forums these days is to mark all of a subforum as read. That way the thread or two I decided to ignore won't keep showing up as unread next time I sign on.

In my mind navigation obstacles is holding back participation because we can all go to other sites with better navigation.
