No more road ahead, time to turn north.

The Pacific Coast Highway should be on every bikers bucket list.

We had to ride thru the clouds to get to the top of Beartooth where pictures do no justice to the scenery.

By Canon City, CO they have this one lane hogback road that is cool to ride

From there we went to the Royal Gorge Bridge

The trip took us 15 days and over 6500 miles. We went to and thru 11 states (Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado then back thru part of New Mexico, Texas and home again in South Louisiana). Covered most of the Western half of The United States of America. This was a trip for the ages.
We hit it lucky about half way thru the trip. We made it just over the border into Oregon and could not find a decent place to stay but the Lady at one of the places recommended we back track into Cali to the Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River, CA. We did so and once we checked in we were informed they had free laundry service. So if you are ever on a bike trip in Northern Cali and looking for covered parking and laundry this is the place to stop.

Garage
There is something about living somewhere that makes you not take pictures. I have very few pictures of Cali and none of Golden Gate bridge even though I've been by the turn out several times. I was always in a hurry going somewhere else. I hated going over it in fog too. The expansion grids get very slick.

Yeah, we have a bunch of them here, too! Only almost all of ours are the two-legged, upright variety.

That really is the trip of a lifetime! Beautiful pictures! I hope I get a chance to take a ride like that one day.

Congrats on finally getting that trip in. Absolutely beautiful country. We are yet to get out there to see the Redwoods but Good Lord willing we will make it in the next 2 years. Thank you for sharing!!!

By the way, have they rebuilt the shops at The Royal Gorge? It was supposed to have all burned shortly after we were there.

Thanks all for the comments.

Moni, We rode the Skyline drive (I called it a hogback) to get to Canon City where we fueled up and got a bite to eat. We were talking to the waitress about the Gorge and she told us about the fire but she had not been back to see if they had rebuilt it. We decided to go back and see it and get a couple of pictures but we didn’t go to where the shops where so I have no idea if they have completed the rebuild are not.

If you get to the redwoods make sure you have time to ride at least some of the coastline on highway 1. It should be on everyone’s “roads to ride list”

Along that line this trip we were planning on riding two roads that are also on my “roads to ride list”. The first was Going to the Sun road in Northern Montana but it was still closed at that time for repairs so we missed that one. The other was Mount Evans the highest blacktop road in the US. We did not know it was down for repairs beforehand so we rode there only to find out the road was closed so they could fix a damaged guardrail.

Nice pics, looks like a great tour. 6500 miles in 15 days; over 400 miles per day plus all the sight-seeing is really putting the miles in.

Thanks for sharing the experience
