Occasionally something will come up that makes you decide that maybe you should consider staying off the bike. I am dealing with a pretty bad sinus infection, and it's screwing with my balance. I think maybe I should not get on the vehicle that has two wheels.

What reasons have you had for skipping the ride? I've skipped for being fatigued and when old injuries have come back to haunt.

Lately my biggest problem has been my hips and knees, I'm in pretty bad shape (health wise) anyway, but when I try to walk and my hips and left knee screams at me, I know I won't be on the bike....I'm seriously thinking of selling it this summer since I don't get to ride often anymore.....

I've been very healthy my whole life with very few illnesses or injuries. My good luck caught up with me in the past few weeks.

First I was down with the flu. Even thought I had a flu shot last fall. Doc said nothing would help, just had to tough it out.

A few days after recovering from the flu I over did it at the gym and hobbled my left knee. I always thought elevation meant ride to the mountains, but that's not what the Doc meant.

Then I hit my right ankle on the coffee table. Yeow! That hurt! I was limping with both legs.

Knee and ankle are now feeling a little better every day.

Glad to be back on the bike today.

Let's see...I've skipped because:

- Too cold

- Too windy

- Supposed to rain really, really bad.

- Wasn't supposed to rain at all, but rained really, really bad anyway

- Too much pain from injuries related to a wreck

- Not having a bike to ride because of aforementioned wreck

- Too much stuff to do, which can not facilitate the use of a motorcycle

- I've been drinking

- I've not had enough sleep, and could straight up faceplant at any moment

- Various illnesses ( mostly sinus infections. I very rarely get anything else )

Little things like that.

Riding used to relieve me of pain. Not so much anymore. My wreck seems to be continually changing what hurts. My back pain still gets help from riding but that's over-ridden with hip and ankle pain. I thought a complete ankle replacement with all metal parts would stop that pain. I was very wrong. Hip has always hurt after breaking it in high school. Back then they said don't put ANY weight on it for 8 weeks. Of course I knew better and hated the crutches while carrying half a library of books. So picking up the crutches and walking normal was so much easier. Paying the piper now it seems. And now it's both hips. You know those commercials advertising wanting volunteers to use a new wonder drug to make you pain free? They laughed at me saying, "not that kind or that much pain". What a crock. I tried though. Heck I'll try just about anything to get rid of pain. All they can do is make it so I don't scream. Most people would be sound alseep with the amount of junk going in me. I don't even notice it. So far patches are still working but I wonder when that will stop. Even eastern pins I've tried. Zip. I really wish I'd learn what it is I need to learn so I could get my ticket punched.:(

Snow and ice on the roads will shut me down, obviously

Temperatures around freezing and wet weather make me take the car, I ride to work at 3 am and black ice is a scary possibility, my ride goes from 300 feet altitude up over a 1500 foot ridge then back down to sea level, so i get 3 different climates on every 72 mile ride.

I"ll ride in very cold, dry weather but if it's brutal out my rides are short ones only. My cut off for the 72 miles to work is about 15 degrees, I find I start getting cold before I get there if it's colder than that.

Rain I actually find fun, but really bad thunderstorms will keep me off the bike, but sometimes they catch me anyway. If they do..just keep riding.

I used to avoid really windy days but I've gotten over that, I'm sure there is some point it's too windy but I haven't seen it yet.

I've ridden home from work after an unplanned 18 hour shift and I know I was not at my best but it was that or stay there..so I ride carefully and make it work.

I will not drink and ride a motorcycle. I tried riding a few times after 1 beer and while it went fine I noticed my edge wasn't there..so I made the decision not to do it at all. I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol :)

All of the above!!!!!!!!!:p

Weather above all can disrupt my riding since the outlook can change from nothing to Tornadic storms from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, within a matter of a few hours:frown:

This example happened yesterday: When I started out, at about 8 AM, riding South, it was a beautiful and clear but hot and muggy morning. I did see cloud formations at a long distance in the West, but nothing showed up as a potential storm until late in the afternoon according to the The National weather service. I rode about 70 miles, stopped for breakfast and when I walked out of the cafe, the entire sky was black! I ran somewhat before the storm, downwind with the Spinnaker set and full, made it home without a drop of water hitting me, pulled into my Barn, parked the bike and instantly, the deluge started. From that point on, just a little past 12:30 PM until about 10 PM, we were under a severe Tornado warning:thumbsdown:

So, in summation, weather sort of dictates whether I ride and in what compass direction.
